SBCFL Celebrates National Library Week 2021

The San Benito County Free Library will be celebrating National Library Week completely online this year, April 4th thru 10thFirst sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and observed in libraries across the country each April. All types of libraries – school, public, academic and special – participate. Click the banner below to read the ALA’s annual “State of America’s Libraries” special report.

This year’s theme of “Welcome to Your Library”  is a time to celebrate our nation’s libraries, library workers’ contributions and promote library use and support. It is also a time to see what the library staff have been doing “behind the scenes” throughout this health crisis, from handling quarantined materials to expediting Zipbooks program orders for home deliveries. The SBCFL created a “Meet the Library” page to introduce our community to the people who make it all happen.

During the pandemic, library workers have continued to exceed our communities’ needs and the SBCFL has adapted our services during these challenging times. The library continues to transform lives through education and lifelong learning by offering virtual programming such as adult reading classes, online story times, video recorded art lessons and engaged book clubs.

The SBCFL would like to continue encouraging patrons of the community to utilize the Books-To-Go programa curbside service for materials borrowing and mobile printingFor more information call the library at 831-636-4107 or visit the website. Also stop by the library at our 5th Street location to see the changing front window, with this month’s display reflecting National Library Week and National Poetry Month.
