“Little Books in Little Hands” Program launch!

A program for teachers to receive a specially curated collection of titles and read borrowed books to their students from the library. Each participating child will also receive a book to take home in contribution of their first home library collection.

How does it work?

  • Preschool classes interested in the program can fill out the interest form below. Later they will be contacted by the library and given the program information. Maximum of 5 classes can be accommodated.
  • San Benito County Free Library will we deliver a bag to the teachers with 20 book titles each month for their class to read together. These can be theme-related to the teachers’ curriculum. Included in the bag will be a list of materials checked out to the teacher, for them to keep track of books in their possession.
  • Library staff can pick up and exchange a new bag of books at the end of each month, along with incentive books for the kids to take home, share with their family, and build their own little library.
  • The library will provide a one time basket of incentive books, which will be inventoried through library staff.
  • Children participating will be encouraged to join the “1000 books Before Kindergarten” program.
  • The library will keep track of titles borrowed by teachers with a special program card in KOHA; this is to extend the borrowing period from 3 to 4 weeks.
