Volunteers are a vital part of the San Benito County Free Library. Whether you’re helping with programs, supporting literacy efforts, or assisting staff behind the scenes, your time and talents make a big difference in our community.
What Volunteers Do:
- Assist with children’s programs and events
- Help prepare craft or program materials
- Support library staff with organizing materials
- Contribute to literacy and outreach initiatives
Who Can Volunteer:
- Adults and community members who want to give back
- No library experience necessary—training is provided!
Requirements:
- Complete a Library Volunteer Application (linked as PDF or online form)
- Undergo a Live Scan fingerprint background check (at no cost to you—the Library pays the fee)
- Attend a brief volunteer orientation and training session
- Follow County workplace policies (harassment-free, drug-free, respectful environment)
- Must be 18 or older.
Why Live Scan?
Because volunteers may interact with children, families, and vulnerable community members, California law requires a Live Scan fingerprint background check. This ensures a safe and welcoming library for everyone.
How to Get Started:
- Download and complete the Volunteer Application Packet. (Click here to download)
- Return your completed form to the Library.
- Schedule your Live Scan appointment—we’ll give you instructions and cover the cost.
- Once cleared, we’ll contact you to set up your orientation and volunteer schedule.
