Summer Reading Program (PreK-9th Grade)

Starting June 16th, Children will be able to create a challenge for themselves by creating a reading goal for this summer. They will also be able to keep an “Activity Tracker” where they can track the which of the activities we are hosting that they went to.

Sign ups begin June 13th, and the Awards Celebration will be July 21st!

Reading Log

Children who have reached their reading goals will receive a new paperback book, a Completion Award, and a free mini pizza from Mountain Mikes!

Activity Tracker

A list of the activities is above in the flyer. Children who complete 15 activities may choose a prize from the library’s Treasure Chest!

Teen Summer Challenge Flyer_ 05.12.16

Teen Summer Challenge (Ages 12-18)

The Teen Summer Challenge is open for ages 12-18, and is comprised of two parts: The reading log &  the“Through Our Eyes” creative project.

The Reading Log 

Teens can begin signing up for the Teen Summer Challenge reading log on June 13. Receive a prize when you sign-up!

The Goal:

To read at least 20 minutes a day between June 13 and July 21 for a total of 12 hours by the end of the Challenge.

Those who reach the 12 hour mark can come into the library to receive a free book prize and entry into a drawing to win a $25 Target gift card.

“Through Our Eyes” Creative Project

This part of the Challenge begins on June 21. A meeting will be held for participants in the library to discuss the project on June 21.

The Project:

Teens must create a video or slide show of their favorite place or thing to do in San Benito County. Teens who register receive a free book prize.

The video/slide show cannot exceed one-and-a-half minutes in length.

Participants will be split up into three competing age groups:

  • 12-13 years old
  • 14-15 years old
  • 16-18 years old

A judging panel will vote for winning videos from each age group. Winners will each receive a $50 Amazon gift card

One of the winners will have the chance to have their work featured on the Discover San Benito County website
