Exciting Library News!

The San Benito County Free Library located at 470 5th Street in Hollister is expanding the hours of operation. We are thrilled that starting Saturday, February 4, 2017, the library will be opening on Saturdays from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.

The increase in library hours was made possible through the use of self-check machines that are available to the public. This new library technology was obtained through collaboration between: the County of San Benito, Friends of the Library, and Community Foundation for San Benito County.

Santa Clause at the Library

Julie 7On evening of December 8th, the San Benito County Free Library (SBCFL) hosted our 10th Annual Holiday Program.  Activities at this year’s celebration included a special guest appearance by Santa Claus, movies, crafts and a free book for every child. Despite the rain families lined up to take their picture with Santa Claus, get an apple and a free book. Others made holiday ornaments or watched Dr. Seuss’ how the Grinch stole Christmas movie before visiting Santa.

We’d like to thank everyone who braved the weather to make this a great event and extend a special thank you to the Friends of the San Benito County Free Library, the Student Nutrition Department for the Hollister School District, Liz Morales Photography and all the volunteers who gave generously of their time and energy so that the Library was able to provide this fun event to San Benito County families.

Happy Holidays and we hope to see you at the library soon!

Teen Ugly Sweater contest was a success!

Nina Winner PhotoIs it cute? Is it ugly? Judges puzzle over this year’s Teen’s ugly sweater contest!

Nina Jorgenson was declared the winner of the San Benito County Free Library’s first-ever Ugly Holiday Sweater Design Competition on Friday, December 16, 2016! Using tinsel garlands, ribbons, pom poms, and other assorted holiday decorations provided by the library, contestants munched on pizza while creating the ugliest holiday sweater possible. Nina won a gift card and a nifty holiday hat for her creation above.

Star Saunders from San Benito High School (below, left), Louise Roy of the Hollister Art League (below, second from left), and the library’s own Julie Soto (below, second from right) served as judges during the event.
